Citrus-bright and oily, this single-cask Karukera 2008 from Guadeloupe layers orange, lime and cocoa over dried fruit and caramel, an eight-year aged cane-juice rhum bottled for La Maison du Whisky at cask strength of 48.4%.
Description
Karukera is a Guadeloupe agricole producer relaunched in 2002, known for single-cane bottlings, and this 2008 millesime was selected for La Maison du Whisky. Distilled from fresh sugar-cane juice and aged eight years, it sits within Guadeloupe's IGP rather than the Martinique AOC, bottled at cask strength of 48.4%.
Tropical maturation in ex-bourbon wood has built a bright yet rounded profile: lively orange, lime and citrus on the nose, giving way to an oily palate of orange, dried fruit and caramel, with cocoa adding depth. At cask strength the spirit stays full and expressive, the fresh cane core now softened by years of oak into something fruity and mellow. A characterful, citrus-forward aged agricole for drinkers who like their cane rums fruity and barrel-rounded.
