A young full-proof Guadeloupe blanc from Karukera, briefly rested in ex-bourbon wood, showing a saline, olive-brine agricole profile with grass, orange peel and an oily texture, dry and warming at 59.5%.
Description
Karukera L'Intense Longueteau is a Guadeloupe agricole, distilled from fresh-pressed cane juice and bottled by the Longueteau family who relaunched the Karukera label and are the oldest family-owned agricole distillery still running on the island. This is a lightly aged white rum, just over a year in cask, in the high-proof house style.
Falling under Guadeloupe's looser IGP rather than the Martinique AOC, it still drinks like classic French-island cane rum: a brief spell in ex-bourbon wood softens the spirit without colouring its character. Expect an earthy, almost olive-brine nose that nods to clairin, then grass, orange peel and an oily, mouth-coating body that finishes thin, dry and warm. At 59.5% the proof is part of the appeal, and it shines in a Ti Punch where the brine and citrus cut through.
