A 50% Guadeloupe blanc from Karukera bursting with fresh sugarcane, cucumber-cool greenery and citrus over a floral, minty close, distilled from fresh cane juice and built dry and vivid for Ti Punch rather than as a sweet sipper.
Description
Karukera Blanc Agricole is a white cane-juice rum from the Karukera estate in Guadeloupe, the house relaunched in 2002 and known for its single-cane work. Made from fresh sugarcane juice on a column still and bottled unaged at 50%, it is a textbook expression of the freshness and snap a blanc is built to deliver.
Distilled low in the creole style to keep the grassy, vegetal congeners in the spirit, it shows fresh sugarcane, cucumber-cool greenery and a vegetal lift on the nose, then a palate of cane, citrus, spice and grass that finishes floral and minty. This is a dry, vivid white rather than a sweet one, and at 50% it carries real cane intensity. Strong value for the character on offer, it is at its best as the heart of a Ti Punch or in a fresh punch, where the citrus and herbal notes drive the drink for those who like their Guadeloupe blancs punchy.
