Karuizawa Crane is a single malt from Karuizawa distillery in Nagano Prefecture, distilled from a 1960 vintage and bottled in 2024 for the German market at 59.5% cask strength. The crane is a symbol of longevity in Japanese culture, and the name fits: spirit distilled in 1960 at a mountain-foot Nagano distillery that closed in 2000 and was demolished in 2016 has spent over six decades in wood, an extraordinary duration for any whisky.

Rested in Oloroso sherry casks, the whisky has taken on the deep, concentrated character that defines the upper end of the Karuizawa range: dried fig, dark fruit preserve, old leather, incense and a complex savoury depth. At 59.5% the full weight of the maturation is present and undiluted. Bottles from the 1960 vintage represent some of the oldest and scarcest stock to emerge from the closed distillery's inventory.
