Description
Karuizawa distillery in Nagano Prefecture ran its last stills in 2000 and was demolished in 2016. This single cask from the 1994 vintage was among those bottled in that final year, after 22 years in an Oloroso sherry cask, at a cask strength of 62.3% for global release. It represents one of the longer ageing periods for a 1994 vintage Karuizawa.
At 22 years in Oloroso sherry the spirit has moved into the fully extracted, deeply integrated phase of maturation: dried cherry, walnut and prune richness sit over a core of warm leather and dark spice, with the Golden Promise malt providing the underlying firmness and grip typical of Karuizawa. The 62.3% ABV keeps the expression dense and concentrated, and the global release market ensures it reached collectors beyond the dedicated regional allocations of earlier years.
