Karneval Premium Vodka began as a project from German rappers Bonez MC and RAF Camora, first teased back in 2018 and finally bottled in Germany. The producing distillery is not named, but the spirit is made in the German style: a neutral base distilled and filtered for a mild, clean character at 40%, here in a 500ml bottle. What sets it apart on the palate is a soft vanilla note that gives the otherwise neutral spirit a little extra roundness.
The nose is mild with vanilla, the palate is pleasant with vanilla, almond and a touch of black pepper, and the finish is long. That sweet vanilla edge points towards a fruit-forward serve, so mix it into a pink Cosmopolitan: 40ml vodka, 15ml triple sec, 30ml cranberry and a squeeze of lime, shaken and strained. The vanilla rounds off the cranberry's tartness and gives the drink a softer, more sociable finish.
