Description
Kanosuke Single Cask 19421 4 Years Old 2019 (Oloroso) is a single cask single malt distilled at Kanosuke in 2019 and bottled in 2023 for the Japanese market, presented at cask strength. Kanosuke is the Kagoshima coastal distillery of shochu producer Komasa, opened in 2017 and built around three pot stills that produce a characteristically soft, fruit-forward new make.
Cask 19421 was matured in an Oloroso sherry cask, which over four years in the warm Kagoshima climate has built a layer of dried dark fruit, gentle spice and a nutty richness on top of the distillery's fresh fruit base. Oloroso maturation in Japan's humid southern conditions integrates quickly, and by four years the sherry influence is well-developed without overwhelming the underlying spirit character. At 61% the bottling retains the full concentration of the cask at the time of selection.
