Description
Kanosuke 3 Years Old 2019 is a single cask single malt distilled at Kanosuke in 2019 and bottled in 2022, a cask strength release for the Japanese market. Kanosuke sits on the Kagoshima coast in southern Kyushu, where Komasa opened the distillery in 2017, and the warm humid conditions draw the influence of the chosen wood rapidly into the spirit.
The single cask is a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask, a format that even in a short three-year maturation delivers concentrated dried dark fruit, raisin, fig and a thick molasses sweetness to the distillate. The Kanosuke new make tends to be soft and fruit-forward from the triple pot still, and in Pedro Ximenez wood that fruitiness shifts from tropical and fresh toward dried and richly sweet. At 64% this is a high proof cask strength bottling, reflecting the full concentration of both distillate and wood influence with minimal reduction from the warm warehouse.
