Description
Kanosuke 3 Years Old 2018 is a single cask single malt distilled at Kanosuke in 2018 and bottled in 2021 at cask strength for the Japanese market. At only three years of age it is among the youngest aged releases from the distillery, a Kagoshima coastal site opened in 2017 by Komasa, yet the region's warm, humid climate accelerates maturation considerably relative to cooler Japanese sites.
The single cask is a first fill bourbon barrel, which in a hot southern Japanese warehouse delivers its full complement of vanilla, coconut and sweet grain character to the new make within a short maturation window. First fill wood on fresh Kanosuke distillate tends to yield a vivid, fruit-forward spirit with pronounced vanilla and some light spice on the finish. The cask strength bottling at 58% presents the full impact of that first fill extraction.
