Kamara makes this Greek rosé from Xinomavro near Thessaloniki, aged two months in barrel. Natural and organically grown, the 2024 is crisp and dry, with red cherry, redcurrant and a herbal, savoury edge over firm acidity.
Description
Kamara is a small boutique winery near Thessaloniki in northern Greece, run by chemical engineer and oenologist Dimitris Kioutsoukis and his family, working organically and with minimal intervention. Stalisma is made from Xinomavro, the noble red grape of northern Greece, known for its high acidity, firm structure and savoury, tomato and herb character. The vines grow under a continental climate moderated by altitude and coastal influence, with cool nights that lock in the grape's natural acidity. The juice has short skin contact before pressing, then ages around two months in wood, which softens the wine's edges and adds a light savoury complexity without dominating the fruit. Made as a natural wine, it is fermented with native yeasts and bottled with minimal additions. The colour is pale, between onion skin and light pink. The nose shows red cherry, redcurrant and dried herbs, and the palate is dry and crisp, with bright acidity, a gentle grip and a savoury, mineral finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits grilled fish, charcuterie, tomato dishes and feta.
