Description
Bodega K5 sits in Aia near Zarautz in the Basque Country, overlooking the Cantabrian Sea on granite soils, within the D.O. Getariako Txakolina. The wine is made entirely from Hondarrabi Zuri, the region's main white grape, grown on vines trained on high espaliers to catch light and airflow in this cool, wet, maritime climate. The Atlantic influence and short growing season give grapes with modest ripeness and sharp natural acidity, which is the signature of Txakoli. Granite soils drain freely and add a stony, saline quality to the fruit. The wine is made young and fresh in stainless steel with no oak, protecting its primary aromatics and preserving a bright, direct style, and it is typically bottled with a light prickle of carbon dioxide. The colour is very pale with green tints. The nose is fresh and coastal, with green apple, lemon and white flowers over a salty, briny note. The palate is light bodied, bracingly crisp and low in alcohol, finishing dry and saline. Serve very cold at 7 to 9 degrees, poured with height.
