Description
Kevin Descombes, known as Keke, is part of the generation that has raised the reputation of Beaujolais, and he learned the trade from his father, the celebrated grower George Descombes. This cuvee is made from Gamay in the Morgon cru, one of the ten crus of Beaujolais. Morgon is known for its decomposed schist and volcanic soils, locally called roche pourrie, which give the wine more depth and structure than a basic Beaujolais while keeping its bright red fruit. The granite driven soils and cool nights preserve freshness and perfume. Gamay here is typically vinified by carbonic or semi carbonic maceration, where whole bunches ferment from within to draw out vivid red fruit and colour with low, silky tannin. The colour is a bright ruby. The nose is fresh and floral, with strawberry, red cherry and a peppery lift. The palate is juicy and light, with crunchy red fruit, soft tannin and a clean, mineral finish. At 12.5 percent it is a wine to enjoy young and slightly cool. Serve at around 14 degrees. It suits poultry, charcuterie and lighter meats.
