Judith Beck farms biodynamically in Burgenland, Austria, and built Out to sit deliberately outside the regional appellation system. A vegan, natural blend of Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt, barrel-aged fifteen months, it is fresh and lively with red cherry, berries and a peppery edge.
Description
Judith Beck Out is a Burgenland red from Austria, made by Judith Beck outside the local denomination system as a fresh, unforced wine. It blends Blaufränkisch, the region's structured signature grape, with the juicier, softer Zweigelt, and is certified biodynamic, natural and vegan. Burgenland sits in the warm Pannonian plain near Lake Neusiedl, whose moderating influence and cool nights balance the warm growing season, ripening Blaufränkisch fully while preserving its peppery acidity and lift. The vines are farmed biodynamically, with the wine made by minimal intervention so the fruit and site come through cleanly. Ageing runs fifteen months in oak barrels, which softens the firm Blaufränkisch tannins and adds a gentle savoury frame while leaving the bright fruit intact. The wine is bright ruby, with a nose of red cherry, raspberry and red currant over black pepper, dried herbs and a stony earthiness. The palate is light and lively, with fine tannins, fresh red fruit and a clean, peppery finish. Serve lightly cool, around fourteen to sixteen degrees. It suits lighter meats, poultry and earthy vegetable dishes.
