Description
Judith Beck farms this Chardonnay biodynamically in Burgenland, beside Lake Neusiedl in eastern Austria. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic, and the lake moderates the climate, tempering summer heat and holding freshness in the fruit. The wine spends six months in barrel, a measured amount of wood that adds a little roundness and texture while leaving the fruit in front. It pours a pale, bright yellow and shows crisp green apple, juicy pear, citrus and a light floral lift, with a faint creamy note from time on the lees. The palate is fresh and cleanly built, with ripe orchard fruit carried by a clear line of acidity into a dry, gently textured finish. This is an easygoing, well made Chardonnay that favours freshness over oak and drinks well young. Serve it at 10 to 12 degrees in a standard white wine glass.
