From biodynamic vineyards near Lake Neusiedl, Judith Beck makes this natural Pinot Noir. Aged on its lees, it is juicy and refreshing, with cherry and raspberry fruit, gentle spice and the earthy lift that defines her low-intervention Burgenland reds.
Description
Judith Beck has farmed biodynamically since 2007 across twenty hectares in Gols, set between Lake Neusiedl and the Parndorfer Platte in Austria's Burgenland. The Bambule! Pinot Noir grows on a mix of clay, sand and gravel, soils that suit the grape's preference for cool sites and good drainage. The lake tempers the warm continental climate and the strong local winds keep the canopy dry, so the fruit ripens slowly and holds its acidity and delicate aromatics. The wine is made naturally with minimal intervention and aged on its lees rather than in new oak. Resting on the spent yeast cells releases mannoproteins that build texture and weight on the palate, rounding the wine without masking the fruit or adding wood character. The colour is a pale, bright ruby. The nose is perfumed, led by cherry and raspberry with a subtle spice and a floral, earthy undertone. The palate is light, juicy and refreshing, with fine tannin and lively acidity carrying a clean finish. Serve lightly chilled at fourteen to sixteen degrees with roast duck, game birds or mushroom dishes, where its bright fruit and acidity cut the richness.
