Description
Juan Gil Yellow Label 4 Meses 2024 is a Monastrell from D.O. Jumilla in Murcia, made by the Juan Gil family winery, whose roots in the village run back generations. Jumilla is a hot, dry, high-altitude region where Monastrell thrives, the heat driving full ripeness and high sugar while the altitude and cool nights preserve enough acidity for balance. The vines grow on poor limestone soils that keep yields low and the fruit concentrated. The wine is made organically and is suitable for vegans. After fermentation it spends four months in French and American oak, a short ageing that softens the firm Monastrell tannins and adds a layer of spice and cocoa while keeping the fruit fresh and forward. The wine is a vibrant cherry red. The nose is potent and complex, with ripe black cherry and plum, liquorice, black pepper and a smoky, spiced edge. The palate is full bodied and warming, with ripe fruit, firm but rounded tannin and a long, savoury finish carrying the region's warmth. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It suits grilled lamb and spiced dishes.
