Description
Domaine Josmeyer is a biodynamic estate in Wintzenheim, Alsace, and Les Pierrets is its Riesling drawn from stonier parcels within the AOC Alsace zone. The name points to the soils, and Riesling is the classic Alsace variety for reading them: the vine is slow to ripen and carries acidity well, which keeps the wine dry and tense even at 13.5 percent. Ageing on the fine lees after fermentation adds a light textural weight and a savoury, faintly bready undertone without masking the fruit. Biodynamic farming here means the vineyards are worked without synthetic treatments, with an eye to soil life and vine balance. The wine is pale with a green tint. The nose leads with lemon, white peach and white flowers, backed by a stony, almost flinty edge. The palate is dry and precise, the lees giving a rounder middle before a long citrus and mineral finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass.
