Description
Domaine Josmeyer is a biodynamic estate in Alsace, based at Wintzenheim near Colmar and now run by the founder's two daughters, who continue the family's certified biodynamic farming. Le Dragon is a dry Riesling drawn from vines on the plain and lower slopes below the grand cru hills, on a mix of alluvial and limestone-influenced soils that give the wine its firm mineral drive. Alsace sits in the rain shadow of the Vosges, one of the driest wine regions in France, which brings long, sunny ripening with cool nights that lock in the grape's acidity and citrus definition. Biodynamic farming here is aimed at vine balance and a clear expression of site. After fermentation the wine rests on its fine lees, softening the texture while keeping the style bone dry. Expect a pale colour, a nose of lemon, green apple and white peach with a subtle floral note, and a dry, precise palate with bright acidity and a saline, mineral finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass.
