Joseph Drouhin’s Côte de Beaune-Villages, a fresh Pinot Noir blended across the southern Côte de Beaune and farmed biodynamically. The 2022 shows red cherry, wild berries and rose over a light, earthy frame, easy and savoury.
Description
Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune-Villages is a Pinot Noir drawn from village-level sites across the southern Côte de Beaune, made by the Beaune house founded in 1880. Drouhin owns 78 hectares spread through the region and supplements with fruit from local growers, farming organically and biodynamically. The Côte de Beaune runs on limestone and marl with stony clay, a free-draining, alkaline base that gives Pinot Noir its bright red fruit and savoury minerality, while the village blend captures the open, approachable side of the slope rather than a single climat. The 2022 was a warm but balanced vintage, giving ripe fruit with retained freshness. Fermentation uses native yeasts and the wine ages in French oak that frames the fruit lightly. The colour is a clear, bright ruby. The nose shows red cherry, wild strawberry, red currant, rose and a touch of plum, with an earthy undertone. The palate is light to medium, fresh and supple, the tannins soft and the finish clean and savoury. This is an everyday Burgundy made to drink young. Serve at 15 degrees, lightly chilled in summer. Good with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
