Description
Joseph Drouhin is a long-established Burgundy house that farms biodynamically and works across the region. This Beaujolais Nouveau is the classic primeur, a vin de primeur released on the third Thursday of November just weeks after harvest, from Gamay grown on the granite and clay soils south of Burgundy. Nouveau is made by carbonic maceration, where whole uncrushed bunches ferment inside the berry, a method that gives the style its bright violet colour, soft tannin and lifted red-fruit scent. The wine sees no oak, so the fruit is left clean and fresh. The colour is a medium-intensity violet. The nose is fresh and fruity, with raspberry and redcurrant to the fore and an intense freshness. The palate is light and soft, with low tannin, juicy red fruit and crisp acidity. This is an uncomplicated young red made for early enjoyment and good cheer. Serve lightly chilled at 13 degrees. It goes well with charcuterie, roast chicken, cured ham and simple cheeses.
