Description
Josep Grau left a career as a broker to make wine in Montsant, settling at Marçà and farming organically without pesticides. The name Granit points to the decomposed granite soils beneath these vineyards, free-draining and low in vigour, which yields small crops of concentrated fruit and lends the wine its firm mineral spine. Garnacha Blanca ripens well in the warm Mediterranean climate here, though cooler nights off the surrounding hills preserve freshness and keep alcohol moderate at 12 percent. The wine is fermented and aged in barrel with minimal intervention, and the time in wood softens the texture, feeds the palate a subtle toasted edge and adds weight without dominating the fruit. The result is pale gold with a broad, textured palate. Expect white peach, ripe pear and lemon on the nose, backed by wild thyme, almond and a touch of beeswax. The palate is dry and rounded, with a saline, stony finish drawn from the granite. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white glass, ideally with a little air.

Additional information
The barrel-worked texture stands up to roast white fish, monkfish and paella. Try it with roast chicken and herb stuffing, or with grilled prawns; the stony freshness also handles hard sheep's cheeses such as aged Manchego.
