Description
José Cuervo 1800 Añejo is a 100% Blue Weber agave tequila in the añejo class, produced at La Rojeña in the town of Tequila, the Beckmann family house that is the oldest active distillery in the category. The 1800 line is the polished fine tier above Cuervo's everyday mixto bottlings, drawn from the lowland Valles tradition and aged past the one year minimum that the añejo class requires.
The spirit spends roughly three years in oak, long enough for the cask to move from supporting role to co-lead. Steam cooked agave underpins a fuller bouquet of honey, toasted almond and oak, with a little citrus lifting the edges, and the palate turns warm and lightly spiced. Bottled at 38%, it sits in the rounder, sweeter register that long oak contact and the brand's mainstream house style tend to produce.
