Description
Ennak + is a red blend from Celler Jordi Miró in Corbera d'Ebre, in the Catalan appellation of Terra Alta. Jordi Miró planted his first vineyard in 1999 and built his own winery in 2009, working both local grapes such as Carignan and Garnacha and international varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo, all of which feature in this blend. Terra Alta is a high inland plateau in the south west of Catalonia, warm and dry but cooled by the Garbí sea breeze, with poor limestone and clay soils that keep yields low and concentrate flavour. The blend marries the ripe Mediterranean fruit of Carignan and Garnacha with the structure of the Bordeaux grapes and Tempranillo. Twelve months in French oak knits the components together, adding fine tannin and a light vanilla frame through slow oxygen exchange while keeping the fruit fresh. The wine is medium bodied at 14 per cent, deep ruby in colour, showing red berries, plum and cherry with black pepper and dried herbs, finishing savoury with rounded tannins. The farming is sustainable. Serve at 16 degrees. It is a versatile match for pork, beef and tomato-based dishes.
