Description
Jordan produce The Cold Fact Sauvignon Blanc at their estate in the Stellenbosch Kloof, part of the Coastal Region of South Africa. The vineyards benefit from cool air and cloud drawn in off nearby False Bay, which tempers the Cape sun and preserves the bright acidity that defines the style. Free draining granite and shale soils keep the vines in balance and concentrate aromatics in the fruit. The wine is fermented cool to protect its aromatic character and then rested on its fine lees, which adds a little weight and texture to what is otherwise a lean, direct white. It sees no oak. In the glass it is pale with green tints, showing gooseberry, lemon, green apple and cut grass, with an elderflower note above the fruit. The palate is crisp and dry, with a flinty, mineral edge and a clean, citrus finish. This is Sauvignon Blanc in a taut, savoury style rather than a tropical one. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
