Description
Jean-Marie Fourrier farms with a family tradition in the Gevrey-Chambertin part of Burgundy and has run his own domaine since 1994, drawing on lessons from Henry Jayer and Domaine Drouhin. This is a single-variety Pinot Noir from Les Amoureuses, a celebrated Premier Cru in the commune of Chambolle-Musigny, a village known for the finesse and perfume of its reds. The limestone-rich slopes and cool continental climate of the Côte de Nuits give Pinot Noir here its bright acidity, its fine tannin and its delicate, floral character rather than sheer power. The wine is aged eighteen months in French oak barrels, a measured stay that resolves the tannins and adds a light frame of spice through slow oxygen exchange while keeping the fruit and site expression to the fore. The colour is a bright, medium ruby. The nose is elegant and lifted, with red cherry and red berries over violet, a light earthy note and dried herbs. The palate is smooth and finely structured, with silky tannins, fresh red-currant acidity and a long, savoury finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, in a Burgundy glass. It suits roast duck, poultry and mushroom dishes.
