Description
Jean Fery & Fils is a family estate in Échevronne, in the Hautes-Côtes between Beaune and Nuits-Saint-Georges in Burgundy, farming around fourteen hectares across the Côte d'Or under organic practice. This regional Bourgogne Pinot Noir draws on the area's limestone and clay soils, the foundation of red Burgundy, which give Pinot Noir its bright acidity, fine tannin and delicate red-fruit character. The cool continental climate and a relatively long, gentle ripening season let the grapes develop aroma while holding their natural freshness. The wine is raised for fifteen months in barrel, an ageing that softens the structure through slow oxygen exchange and adds a light savoury frame without dominating the fruit, while malolactic fermentation settles the acidity into a smoother texture. The colour is pale to medium ruby. The nose is lively and fresh, leading with ripe strawberry and raspberry, backed by cherry, a floral rose lift and an earthy, dried-herb undertone. The palate is light to medium bodied, with silky tannins, clear acidity and a clean, fruit-driven finish. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees in a Burgundy glass; a short time open helps it show. It pairs well with roast duck, chicken and mushroom dishes.
