A twenty-two year Caroni from Jack Tar, this 1999 LIMBO single cask is a cask strength Trinidad heavyweight at 63.7%, classic tar and rubber over caramelised wood, roasted notes and dried fruit.
Description
Jack Tar bottled this single cask of Caroni under its LIMBO label, distilled in 1999 and held twenty-two years at cask strength. It is a heavy mark from the closed Trinidad distillery, drawn from the rescued stock that Velier made famous and that collectors prize for its industrial character.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak from molasses, it is a textbook dirty Caroni, tar, rubber, leather and barrel on the nose, then tar, rubber, caramelised and roasted notes on the palate, closing with tar, rubber, barrel and roasted wood. At 63.7% it sits right on the edge of bitterness and heavy wood, backed by caramel, dried fruits and a heavy sweetness that keeps it engaging and balanced. The 1999 vintage continues to earn attention for examples like this. A convincing, dirty, warming heavyweight for those who already enjoy full-proof industrial Caroni.
