Description
Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aine is a Rhone estate founded in 1834 and now owned by the Frey family. Parallele 45 takes its name from the 45th parallel north, which passes two kilometres from the winery, and it has been made under this name since 1950. It is a blend of Grenache and Syrah from the AOC Cotes du Rhone, from organically farmed fruit. The southern Rhone has a warm Mediterranean climate, and the region's characteristic galets, the large round stones that cover many vineyards, store daytime heat and release it overnight, ripening Grenache fully and building its generous, spiced fruit. Syrah adds colour, structure and pepper to the blend. The wine is aged in oak, which softens the tannin and knits the two grapes together through gentle oxygen exchange. The colour is deep ruby. The nose shows ripe raspberry and plum with black pepper and a touch of dried herbs. The palate is medium to full bodied and generous, with soft, rounded tannin and a warm, spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits grilled meats, roasts and stews.
