Description
J. Wray and Nephew Special Reserve Finest Jamaica Rum is a twelve year old Jamaican rum bottled by J. Wray and Nephew, the storied Kingston house behind Appleton, with this bottle dated to the 1960s. As genuine old stock it offers a taste of how Jamaican rum was presented decades ago, at a gentle 43%.
Matured in ex bourbon wood and declared unsweetened, it shows an elegant, restrained side of Jamaican rum rather than high ester funk. The nose is light and nutty with dried fruit and a herbal lift, and the palate stays round and light with wood, nuts and soft spice, finishing on wood, nuts and raisin. The nutty character is a real highlight. It drinks like a piece of history, blending the Appleton style with a certain Demerara like depth, a graceful and characterful old sipper for those drawn to vintage bottlings.
