J.M Fourrier farms this Chambertin Grand Cru from Pinot Noir on the famed limestone and clay of Gevrey-Chambertin. Worked biodynamically and aged sixteen months in oak, it is deep and structured, with ripe red fruit, floral lift and earthy, mineral depth.
Description
Chambertin is one of the most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards of Burgundy's Cote d'Or, and J.M Fourrier has farmed its parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin since the domaine was founded in 1930. The Pinot Noir grows on a mix of limestone and clay, soils that give the wine its firm structure, fine tannin and mineral spine, while the cool continental climate and old vines concentrate the fruit and hold acidity. The estate works biodynamically and organically, and the wine spends sixteen months in oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds spice and subtle smoke without masking the fruit. The result is a slightly full-bodied red of deep colour, with intense aromas of ripe red cherry and red berries, a floral rose lift and developing notes of earth, leather and oak. The palate is structured and long, with fresh acidity, polished tannins and a savoury, mineral finish built for cellaring. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted, in a large Burgundy glass. It suits game and roasted meats.
