Description
Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron is a small organic estate based in Premeaux, south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, with around eight hectares across several appellations. Since 2003 the vines have been ploughed by horse to avoid compacting the soil, part of a careful, low-intervention approach in the vineyard. This is a village Chambolle-Musigny, pure Pinot Noir from a commune known for producing some of the most perfumed and delicate reds of the Cote de Nuits. Its soils are limestone with a higher proportion of active limestone and finer topsoil than its neighbours, which gives the wine its silky texture, elegance and fine chalky minerality. The fruit is carefully selected, fermented and aged in barrel, where slow oxygen exchange through the wood softens the tannins and adds gentle spice while the aromatics are preserved. The wine is a bright, pale ruby. The nose is fragrant and lifted, with red cherry and raspberry over rose and a light earthy, peppery note. The palate is medium bodied and refined, with silky tannin, bright acidity and a long mineral finish. Serve at 15 to 17C in a large glass, decanting briefly. Good with duck, game birds and mushroom dishes.
