Description
Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron is a respected Côte de Nuits estate, and this is its Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru from Pinot Noir. Chambolle-Musigny is known for the most fragrant, silky reds of the Côte de Nuits, a style that comes from its limestone-rich soils. The fruit here comes from mature vines aged forty-five to sixty-five years, which carry a small, concentrated crop and add depth and finesse. The grapes are destemmed and gently pressed, then fermented in tank at controlled temperature with carbon dioxide retention, a technique that protects the delicate aromatics and colour before ageing. The wine is raised in new French oak for fifteen to eighteen months, where slow oxygen exchange builds structure and adds a fine spice and vanilla frame around the fruit. The colour is a bright ruby. The nose is perfumed, with fresh cherry, red currant and rose over subtle oak and a savoury, earthy edge. The palate is medium bodied and silky, with fine-grained tannin, bright acidity and a long, elegant finish. This rewards cellaring but shows well with a light decant. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees with roast duck, beef fillet or mushrooms.
