Domaine J.J. Confuron makes this Bourgogne Pinot Noir from clay and limestone plots in Burgundy. Careful selection and 15 to 18 months in barrel give fresh red cherry, raspberry and a fine, earthy finish.
Description
Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron is a respected grower in Burgundy, and this Cuvée Jeunesse is its regional Bourgogne Pinot Noir. The grapes come from plots of clay, limestone and silt, the classic Burgundian terroir, where the limestone gives the wine its freshness and fine structure while the clay adds flesh and depth. The fruit is carefully sorted, destemmed and pressed before alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature, a steady, cool ferment that preserves the delicate aromatics of Pinot Noir. The wine then ages 15 to 18 months in barrel, depending on the vintage, the oak giving slow oxygen exchange and a measured frame of spice rather than heavy wood, in keeping with the variety's transparency. It pours a bright, translucent ruby and opens with freshly picked red cherry, raspberry and redcurrant, lifted by a floral, rose petal note and an earthy, forest floor depth. The palate is light to medium bodied, with bright acidity, silky tannins and a fresh, savoury finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees. It is a classic match for roast poultry, duck and mushroom dishes.
