A storied old Martinique agricole from J. Bally, vintage 1975 at 43%, fresh-pressed cane juice aged into a mature, lightly woody classic of grass and lemon over dried fruit, with a minty, spiced oak finish, dry and unsweetened.
Description
J. Bally is a celebrated name among older Martinique agricole, and this Plantation Lajus du Carbet 1975 is a genuine vintage release. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice on a column still and bottled unsweetened at 43%, it represents the kind of aged Bally that has long drawn devoted followers for its elegance.
The nose keeps a distinctly grassy, agricole signature alongside vanilla, oak and a fresh lemon lift, while the palate shows grass, dried fruit and a clear vieux-agricole character over gentle wood. The finish runs woody and minty with dried fruit and spice. Decades of maturation have softened it into a lighter, more delicate profile, true to the gentler character of these old releases, where the green cane core has aged gracefully rather than been buried by oak. A piece of Martinique agricole history made for slow, neat sipping.
