A 1982 vintage J. Bally from Martinique at 45%, remarkably deep for its strength, intensely fruity and tropical with creamy wax, vanilla, nutmeg and pepper over a warm, spiced, woody finish.
Description
J. Bally Millesime 1982 is an old vintage agricole from J. Bally, a Martinique name long associated with pioneering vintage dated cane juice rum and now produced at the La Mauny site. Distilled from fresh sugarcane juice on a creole column still and bottled at 45%, it carries the depth that decades and tropical conditions bring.
Despite the modest strength, this is a profound and richly aromatic rum. The nose offers vanilla, wood, ripe fruit and nutmeg, the palate is intensely fruity and tropical with a creamy, waxy texture and white pepper, and the finish runs warm, spiced and woody. The deep bitterness that can mark some aged agricoles is largely absent, leaving fruit and elegance in its place. A graceful, fruit led vintage for drinkers who prize depth and balance at a gentle proof, a cellar worthy bottle to savour neat.
