Izadi Selección Blanco is a young Rioja white from Bodegas Izadi in Rioja Alavesa, built on a blend of native white grapes led by Viura. Fresh and unoaked, it shows white fruit, citrus and a delicate floral lift.
Description
Izadi Selección Blanco is made by Bodegas Izadi in Villabuena de Álava, in the cooler Rioja Alavesa sub zone of DOCa Rioja. The winery was founded in 1987 and is now part of Artevino Family Wineries. This is a young white built from a blend of indigenous Rioja white varieties, led by Viura with Maturana Blanca, Tempranillo Blanco, Malvasía, Garnacha Blanca and Turruntés. Rioja Alavesa sits at altitude on limestone rich clay soils at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, and the mountain shelter with cool nights gives white grapes a long, even ripening and keeps acidity firm. The wine is made to protect its freshness and fruit, with the aromatic native varieties adding perfume and the Viura giving body. The blend carries a light, subtly toasted and spiced background rather than overt oak. The colour is pale lemon. The nose is fresh and orchard led, with green apple, white peach and lemon, a tropical hint and delicate white flowers. The palate is dry and crisp, with citrus peel bite and a clean, savoury finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 10 degrees as an aperitif or with lighter dishes.
