Description
El Regalo is a named 3.85 hectare plot in Villabuena de Álava, in the Rioja Alavesa, farmed organically by Izadi. The wine blends Malvasía, which brings aromatics and body, with Viura, which brings freshness and structure. The Alavesa sits on poor clay-limestone soils at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, and the range shelters the vineyards while the calcareous subsoil holds moisture and lends the wine a firm mineral backbone. After pressing, the wine spends eight months in a mix of concrete and oak barrels, ageing on its fine lees. Concrete keeps the fruit clean and gives a rounded texture without adding flavour, while time on the lees releases mannoproteins that build a creamy weight and a subtle bready character; the barrel share adds a light vanilla and toast. The colour is straw-yellow with green tints, the nose shows white peach, beeswax, citrus peel and toasted almond, and the palate is broad and savoury with a saline, nutty finish. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
The lees texture and gentle oak suit roast chicken, pork loin and grilled tuna or swordfish. It also stands up to hard nutty cheeses such as aged Idiazábal, and to creamy vegetable gratins.
