Description
Superstition is one of Isle of Jura's lightly peated expressions, a rare smoky turn for a distillery built to make an unpeated, Highland-style malt. The name nods to island folklore. The island of Jura has just one distillery, rebuilt in 1963 to revive a community that had lost its trade.
While Jura mostly runs an unpeated spirit, occasional peated batches from the late 1990s feed bottlings like this. Matured in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood frames a malt that carries gentle smoke.
Bottled at 43%. The ex-Bourbon wood gives vanilla, while light peat phenols add a gentle smoke from guaiacol. The smoke sits against Jura's honeyed, maritime character rather than dominating it. A lightly peated island malt with a foot in island folklore.
