Description
This 45 year old was distilled in 1973, a decade after the Jura distillery was rebuilt, and bottled in 2018 as a single cask vintage release. Drawn from ex-Bourbon cask 1, it gave just 83 bottles, among the oldest and scarcest expressions the distillery has put out.
The only distillery on the remote island of Jura was rebuilt in 1963, its tall stills set up for a light spirit. Its clean make is exactly what lets a malt survive 45 years in oak without turning woody. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask across that span.
Bottled at 42%. Vanillin from the ex-Bourbon oak reads as vanilla, oak lactones as coconut, and maltol adds toffee. Four and a half decades have layered waxy, honeyed depth over polished oak. A rare vintage Jura from the early revival years.
