Brave New Spirits bottled this 13 year old Isle of Jura for The WhiskyHeroes, Sanctum of the Deer, drawn from Oloroso single cask 28425, a nod to the island's deer. An outturn of 277 bottles for Germany. Jura's single distillery, rebuilt in 1963, was designed to make a softer malt than its Islay neighbours.
The distillery's light, clean spirit takes sherry well. Matured in a single Oloroso cask across 13 years, the sherry wood pulls the malt towards dried fruit.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 54%. The Oloroso gives dried fruit, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin, with a walnut dryness. Full and sherried at cask strength. A deer-themed sherried single cask Jura.
