Description
Batch 9 is one of The Hearach's 2024 core releases, the numbered batch system that carries the Isle of Harris single malt to its growing market. It was a large outturn of 12,385 bottles for Europe at standard strength.
The Isle of Harris Distillery, in Tarbert, opened in 2015 as a Social Distillery to anchor a fragile island economy, and its lightly peated Hearach was the first single malt ever made on Harris. Matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon, Oloroso and Fino casks, the three woods layer vanilla, dried fruit and a dry nuttiness.
At 46%, non-chill-filtered, with no colouring added. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla and coconut, the Oloroso fig and raisin, the Fino a dry almond edge, with gentle peat smoke threading through. The recorded note is honey, sitting over a coastal salinity. A balanced young island malt.
