Description
Batch 13 is one of the later 2024 core releases of The Hearach, the Isle of Harris single malt bottled in numbered runs at standard strength. Each batch is a fresh vatting, so the character shifts a little from one to the next.
The Tarbert distillery opened in 2015 as a Social Distillery, founded by Anderson Bakewell to revive island life, and released the first single malt ever made on Harris in 2023. Its malt is lightly peated and its water gneiss-filtered. Matured in ex-Bourbon, Oloroso and Fino casks, the three woods build vanilla, dried fruit and a dry nuttiness.
Bottled at 46%, natural in colour and without chill filtration. The ex-Bourbon gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, the Oloroso fig and raisin, the Fino a dry almond edge, with the gentle island smoke beneath. Fruity, lightly smoky and coastal.
