Description
The Hearach is released in numbered batches, and Batch 10 is one of the 2024 core bottlings from the Isle of Harris Distillery. A large outturn of 12,058 bottles for Europe, it carries the island single malt to a wider audience at standard strength.
The Tarbert distillery opened in 2015 as a Social Distillery, founded to bring jobs to an Outer Hebrides island of fewer than 2,000 people, and bottled its first single malt in 2023. Its malt is lightly peated and its water runs over ancient Lewisian gneiss. Matured in Oloroso and Fino sherry casks, the wood pulls the young spirit towards dried fruit and a dry, nutty edge.
Bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colour. The Oloroso gives dried fruit, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin, while the Fino stays dry and nutty. The recorded note is a cooked vegetable savouriness, the gentle island smoke beneath. Young, sherried and coastal.
