A three year old molasses rum from Isautier on Reunion, one of the island’s oldest houses, matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at an easy 40% as a softer everyday vieux.
Description
Isautier VO Rhum Vieux comes from Reunion in the Indian Ocean, where the long-running Isautier distillery makes spirit from both cane juice and molasses. This bottling is a molasses rum, the sweeter and rounder of the two traditions, given three years in ex-bourbon casks.
Reunion sits outside the Martinique AOC, so this is a vieux in name rather than under that French-island rule book. At 40% it is built as an approachable, soft style. Molasses rum aged briefly in bourbon wood typically shows light vanilla, gentle caramel and a touch of oak spice over a warm cane base.
