Description
Companhia de Vinhos Invencível is the Douro venture of Rita Marqués and Marc Kent, who set up in Casais do Douro, in the heart of the Cima Corgo, in 2020. Tinto Nº 2 is a field blend of native Douro varieties, Rufete, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, planted together and picked together in the old regional style. The Douro's steep terraces sit on schist soils that retain water and force the vines to dig deep, while hot days and cooler nights give a wide diurnal range that builds dark colour, ripe tannin and concentration while keeping freshness. The wine is aged 16 months in barrel, where slow oxygen exchange rounds the tannins and adds spice without dominating the fruit. Farming is sustainable. Expect a deep ruby colour and aromas of ripe plum, blackberry and red fruit with black pepper, liquorice and dried herbs over a stony, mineral base. The palate is full and structured, with firm ripe tannins and a long, savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted. It suits hearty meat dishes.
