Description
Gordon & MacPhail bottled this 1989 Inverleven in the cask strength tier of its Connoisseurs Choice range, the flagship line that built the firm's name for single malt. Cask 832 gave 91 bottles for Europe at 32 years old, the spirit of a distillery silent for three decades.
Inverleven was Hiram Walker's malt distillery within the Dumbarton grain complex, built in 1938 and closed in 1991 before the site was demolished. Its surviving casks are a fixed and shrinking supply. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask, the oak worked slowly on a light Lowland spirit.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 47%. Vanillin from the oak reads as vanilla, oak lactones as coconut. Three decades have built a waxy, tropical depth, ripe fruit over polished oak. A scarce single cask from a lost Lowland distillery.
