Description
This 1986 Inverleven was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in its Rare Old range, drawn from a single ex-Bourbon cask. Cask RO/15/09 gave 211 bottles for Europe at 29 years old, the malt from a distillery decommissioned in 1991.
Inverleven sat inside the Dumbarton complex, Hiram Walker's malt distillery built in 1938 for the Ballantine's blend. After closure the stills found new life elsewhere, the Lomond still now making The Botanist gin for Bruichladdich. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask, the oak shaped the Lowland spirit across nearly three decades.
Bottled at 46%. The American oak supplies vanilla through vanillin, coconut through oak lactones, and a toffee note from maltol. The light spirit has gone waxy and tropical, soft fruit over seasoned oak. A characterful old malt from a name that has vanished.
