Description
This 1985 Inverleven was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as a Licensed Bottling, the Elgin firm's long-standing line of distillery-style releases at standard strength. Released for Germany at 14 years old, it shows the malt young, much as it would have been drunk when Inverleven was still working.
Inverleven was Hiram Walker's malt distillery inside the Dumbarton complex, built in 1938 for the Ballantine's blend and closed in 1991. The pot stills were the first in Scotch to be steam-heated. Matured in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood lends light structure to a grassy Lowland spirit.
Bottled at 40%. The ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with a soft cereal sweetness. At 14 years the spirit stays light and clean, citrus and gentle oak. A straightforward dram from a distillery that no longer stands.
