Description
Founded in 1959, Invergordon makes grain whisky on a large scale for blending, so single grain bottlings under its own name are rare and come mostly from independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by Murray McDavid, distilled in 1972, at 50 years old, for its Mission Gold range. Single cask number 88043 yielded 129 bottles, released for Europe.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 43.7%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. The great age has turned the spirit waxy and tropical, ripe mango and pineapple emerging over the vanilla.
