Description
A grain distillery in the malt heartland of the Northern Highlands, Invergordon sends most of its spirit into blends, leaving single grain releases to independent bottlers. This release was bottled by Phil & Simon Thompson, distilled in 1972, at 48 years old. The outturn was 260 bottles, released for Italy.
Invergordon is a grain distillery rather than a malt one, distilling a mash of maize, wheat and barley through tall continuous column stills to a light, high strength spirit. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at 42%, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to a cooked vegetable note and vanilla. Long maturation has layered tropical fruit and a buttery, waxy weight over the grain's natural sweetness.
